Chapter 11: Ghost Hunt Walkthough

Ghost Hunt Walkthough

Preparing Research:

Ghost hunters must diligently search for knowledge. Discover and examine facts, prove ideas, develop new theories, and solve problems. Research clues and understand the frequency of paranormal activity and behaviors.

Did you conduct research?
Did you examine the location?
Did you document haunting activity?
Do witnesses exist?
Did you interview witnesses?
Did you use research data to create a Spirit Profile?
A spirit profile will include background history, physical descriptions, common activities, and repeatable patterns. These profiles examine the thoughts, behaviors and personality of the ghost. Spirit profiles are used to develop ghost hunting strategies.

Planning Objectives

Establish the purpose of the ghost hunt. Identify key ideas and strategies. And develop specific, attainable, measurable objectives to pursue during the ghost hunt.

Did you establish a purpose?
Did you create a list of goals?
Are the purpose and goals achievable?
Have individual responsibilities and expectations been assigned?
Have safety and ethical issues been listed as goals?
Goals are important because they help a ghost hunting team stay focused. Objectives give ghost hunters a clearly defined target. Ghost hunting goals can be short term, long term and flexible objectives. The flip side of this idea also works: Create “Don’t Do” lists including bad habits that you are trying to break.

Always remember to Experiment: Create a Testable Theory. List the Materials Needed. Outlined the Test Procedures. Collect the Results. Analyze Results.

Deploy Supplies and Equipment:

Arrange cameras, motion detectors, audio recorders and other necessary ghost hunting equipment in a manner aimed to achieve the best possible results. Equipment should be set up based on the research findings and the spirit profile.

Did you bring notebooks and pens / pencils?
Do you have enough working flashlights?
Did you know how to work the equipment?
Did you test the equipment prior to the ghost hunt?
Did you test batteries and bring new batteries?
Did you check weather reports?
Do you have reliable cell phones and emergence contact lists?
EMF detectors, video cameras and audio recorders need to be in a position of readiness. Necessary equipment needs to be quickly available, easy to handle and operate.

Analyze the Results

What happens after the ghost hunt is often the most important aspect of ghost hunting. Ghost hunters must conduct a serious examination of their work and assess critical judgement. Diligently scrutinize the methods and results. Diligently scrutinize the evidence collected. Diligently scrutinize each ghost hunter’s job.

Did you manage time well?
Were noticeable mistakes made?
How did the mistakes effect the ghost hunt?
Did members behave in a professional manner?
Did members follow organizational and ethical guidelines?
Are facts being presented or are assumptions being made?
What were your strengths?
What were your weaknesses?
Why should anyone believe these results?
What could have been done differently?

Every part of a ghost hunt must be broken down and critically examined to identify successes or faults and shortcomings. Ghost hunters can learn how to improve their techniques and results by honestly evaluating the outcome of ghost hunts.
